Check out this great article regarding an outdoor classroom that was recently built for students at H.C. Storm Elementary School in Batavia, IL.  According to the Daily Herald article, students “look forward to studying reading, mathematics and other subjects out there, sitting on stones that form a miniature amphitheater. Teachers will be able to eat their lunches at picnic tables. And the kids will be able to swap books in a Little Free Library …”

The picnic tables mentioned in the article were donated by Norix Furniture through CHIP IN, a local organization that partnered with the school and “helps students of BPS District 101 who find themselves in temporary housing situations. It also supports the students while they are transitioning to permanent housing and ensures that students who are facing poverty can be successful in school,” according to its website.

And the tables will be put to good use after school hours as well. CHIP IN will use the furniture to tutor and mentor underserved students in Batavia after school, giving them valuable assistance and life lessons. Norix Furniture is extremely proud to have made this donation!

About Norix Gives

The Norix Gives donation program is employee-driven, with staff members choosing nonprofits or charities and making site visits to facilities to assess needs, then bringing proposals before the Norix Gives Committee for consideration. Causes, organizations and facilities that are considered for the program include:

  • Local causes in Kane or DuPage counties.
  • Causes that help Norix people – staff, vendors, reps – with any hardships they may be facing.
  • Causes that serve our markets – healthcare, behavioral healthcare, shelters, military, correctional transition efforts and others.
